A beautiful way to start the weekend, the master’s techniques with Peter Barker have been exactly what I’d been looking for to start my journey with oil painting. Peter is incredibly talented, informative, supportive and patient. He encourages understanding the foundations of oil painting through solid practice, so you’re always painting away and learning. I’ve been doing the Saturday morning sessions and I’ve been so in love with my Saturday morning ritual. I’m so appreciative for the recommendation I had to enrol in this course, it’s given me a great base to start and continue my oil painting learning. Thank you Peter!

I highly recommend Perth Art Academy, it is such a welcoming space, bright, open, and easy to settle into. Peter’s calm, encouraging style makes oil painting genuinely fun. He’s a brilliant teacher and incredibly knowledgeable. Three terms in and I’m not only seeing real progress but I am also feeling more confident about my art. I am so glad I found PAA.

I can’t recommend Perth Art Academy highly enough. I’ve always been drawn to oil painting and renaissance portraiture, but without any formal art school training, I had spent years piecing things together and doing random online tutorials that never really helped me get the results in my paintings that I wanted. After completing two of Peter’s masterclasses and a semester focused on getting back to the fundamentals (inc. a Charles Bargue drawing course) I gained practical, step-by-step skills that absolutely has transformed my approach to painting and accelerated my skills in such a short time. It’s made the whole process even more enjoyable, as I have a solid approach now and feel a lot more confident. Peter is incredibly generous with his knowledge and learning from him has been really inspiring!

My friend and I had been looking for an art class for a while and we were lucky to find Perth Art Academy. We arrived at our first class as real novices and it was a little daunting at first when we saw the high calibre work that other students were working on. Our teacher, Peter, assured us that the class catered to all levels. We have found Peter to be a patient, personable and encouraging teacher, he is generous with his considerable knowledge and he imparts it in such a way that allows his students to produce their best work while enjoying a relaxed, informal and welcoming class. I have, and I will continue to, recommend Peter’s classes to friends and to anyone interested in pursuing a new hobby in art and oil painting, or to those with existing skills looking to rekindle an old interest.

Perth Art Academy is a very comfortable, spacious and light filled Studio . Peter’s calm, informative and encouraging teaching style, combined with a relaxed and friendly Studio environment has enabled me to progress in my pursuit of learning the art of oil painting. I recently had the pleasure of completing the "Absolute Beginners Oil Painting" course by Peter Barker at Perth Art Academy, and it was nothing short of a transformative experience. When I stepped into the class, I was met with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that was inspiring and calming atmosphere - a perfect setting for fostering creativity. Peter Barker was a beacon of knowledge and expertise, guiding us through the nuances of oil painting with grace and patience.
